Leasing a space for your new office is exciting. You may have started your business from your home initially, or you are just moving up from a tiny space to something bigger. Setting up an office is a big task and you want to make sure everything is installed before your employees come into the space to work. From an attendance system to cubicles, there's a lot you'll need.

The first and most important thing is to set up working space. You have to consider whether you have multiple departments and if you want them to each be in their own space or if it's easier for everyone to work together as a full team. Cubicles are an easy way to give each employee their due privacy but still leave their workspace open so everyone is easily approachable. Consider how big of a desk space everyone will need and how large the computers are you'll be buying for each workspace.

You'll also need employee clock in software set up. Figure out exactly what kind of system you want. Fingerprint time clocks are a technologically up to date option that will let people clock in and out with ease and won't let them fake any clock ins or clock outs. Having a software system in your computer is also an easier way to link it to your payroll software. Invest in both and paying your employees every week is going to be come much easier.


If you have an areas of your office that are off limits or should only be accessed by specific employees, you'll need to set up locks. You can either use a swipe lock that requires a key card to get in, a numbered pad that needs a specific code input, or a fingerprint door lock that will only open for specific employee prints.

Set up a break room area if you want to keep up good morale in the office. If you can set up a basic kitchen area with fridge, sink, and a few tables to eat, you'll be set. A water cooler is mandatory of course! Keep your employees hydrated and give them a place to chat during their coffee breaks.

If you have a basic set up, employees will be set to move into the new space and start to get their work done. You can worry about the smaller extras afterward, but if you give them a place to work, a way to clock in and get paid, and a place to eat, they can get started in the new office!
