Having an outdoor seating area can be a huge advantage for restaurants. If you haven't purchased restaurant space yet, look for place that has ample outdoor space. It will probably cost a good deal more, but it'll be worth it in the long run. When people pass by a restaurant that has outdoor seating, they are more likely to take interest. I know I certainly do. I'll glance at people's food and if it looks delicious, I'll quickly make note of it in on my phone or take a business card. Instant advertising!

But when you're shopping for restaurant outdoor furniture, you have to be careful what you purchase. Even if you've fallen in love with beautiful wood restaurant chairs, they'll not going to hold up well in inclement weather. Aluminum chairs are great for outdoor seating. They're lightweight and can stack easily. Don't forget that you'll have to store these items somewhere during the winter, unless you're fortune enough to live in a warm climate. Make sure the material is waterproof and UV resistant, otherwise the sun can fade the color.

Tables should be considerably smaller than your tables inside. Look for bistro tables, round or square. With square and rectangular tables, you have the convenience to slide them together for larger parties. However, you really don't want to seat extremely large parties outside. The idea is to keep the area quaint and inviting. I wouldn't want to sit next to the raucous party of 20 and people on the street will not want to hear all that noise. That will deter them from your establishment instead of inviting them in.

Add outdoor umbrellas or some sort of awning that will cover over the tables. The benefits of this are twofold. First, it keeps the sun from beating down on your customers and allows them to actually see their guests rather than squint at them. Second, it protects customers from passing showers. Sun showers are known to happen and even a very light sprinkle of rain will not make customers happy. No one enjoys wet food. Bugs outside are obviously inevitable, but you don't want a swarm of them on the food. Try placing small citronella candles on tables. They won't be strong enough to overpower the smell of the food but they'll still help keep pesky bugs away.

Finish off the restaurant tables with the appropriate table setting. But in order to make the outdoor area a little different and more inviting, use a different color table cloth and napkins than those of your indoor seating. Bright colors will be a nice change and will usher in the beauty of spring and summer.
